Description
A delightful Swedish almond caramel tart, known as Tarta sueca de almendras caramelizadas, featuring a buttery crust and a rich almond caramel topping.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch tart pan with removable bottom.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until a dough forms.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared tart pan. Prick the bottom with a fork to prevent bubbling.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sliced almonds, brown sugar, heavy cream, butter, and vanilla extract. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and the sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes.
- Pour the almond caramel mixture over the baked tart crust, spreading it evenly.
- Return the tart to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly and golden.
- Allow the tart to cool completely before removing it from the pan. Slice and serve.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon to the almond caramel mixture.
- You can substitute the sliced almonds with chopped pecans or walnuts for a different nutty taste.
