Description

Delicious churros served with a rich chocolate sauce, perfect for dessert or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for sauce)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in flour and sugar until a dough forms. Allow to cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F.
  5. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 6-inch strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors.
  6. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a shallow dish, mix 1/2 cup sugar with cinnamon. Roll the hot churros in the sugar mixture until coated.
  8. For the chocolate sauce, heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until just simmering. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips and vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Serve churros warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a lighter option, try baking the churros at 400°F for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • For a fun twist, add a tablespoon of orange zest to the chocolate sauce for a citrusy flavor.
