Description
Delicious and crispy green plantain chips seasoned with sea salt and lime juice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large green plantains
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Peel the green plantains by cutting off the ends and making a slit along the length of each plantain. Carefully remove the skin.
- Slice the plantains into thin rounds, about 1/8 inch thick. A mandoline slicer works well for uniform thickness.
- In a large bowl, toss the plantain slices with lime juice and sea salt until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat. You’ll need enough oil to submerge the plantain slices.
- Once the oil is hot (around 350°F), carefully add a handful of plantain slices to the oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the chips from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Repeat with the remaining plantain slices, ensuring the oil temperature remains consistent.
- Allow the chips to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them as a snack or appetizer.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, sprinkle some chili powder or cayenne pepper on the chips after frying.
- Try baking the plantain slices at 400°F for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, for a healthier alternative to frying.
