Delicious cardamom cream buns filled with almond paste and whipped cream, perfect for a delightful treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and ground cardamom.
- Dissolve the yeast in the warmed milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture, then pour it into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the almond paste by mixing the almond flour, sugar, and milk in a bowl until it forms a smooth paste. Set aside.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely.
- To make the cream filling, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Cut the top off each bun and hollow out a small portion of the inside. Fill each bun with a spoonful of almond paste and top with whipped cream. Replace the tops of the buns.
- Serve immediately or chill for 30 minutes before serving for a refreshing treat.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to the dough.
- You can substitute the almond paste with chocolate or fruit preserves for a different twist.
