Description

Delight in every bite with these delicious cinnamon cardamom rolls, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and ground cardamom. In a separate small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warmed milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the melted butter and egg to the yeast mixture, then pour this into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms. Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup of flour until the dough is smooth and slightly sticky.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Spread the softened butter for the filling evenly over the dough. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle this mixture over the buttered dough.
  6. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  7. Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  9. Once the rolls are done, let them cool slightly before drizzling the icing over the top. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the filling.
  • You can also substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier roll.
